A car or truck is an investment that usually takes 5-7 years to pay off, and for many, it will last for more than twice that long. Because a vehicle is such a major investment, many people take pride in customizing their cars in the ways that they see fit. With the wide availability of after-market auto parts online, the possibilities are endless when it comes to customizing a car or truck. One popular way to do this is through buying an aftermarket horns.

These horns are distinct, effective, and allow a car, truck, motorcycle, or boat to stand out from the crowd. Aftermarket horns are easy to install even for drivers who are new to customizing their vehicles. They feature detailed instructions to have the horns installed in no time—this saves the expenses of having a mechanic do the work. The charge for labor itself can account for a significant percentage of the price, so it’s best for a driver to do it and save a couple of hundred dollars in the process.

Another reason to consider an aftermarket horn is the safety issue. A standard car horn might not be heard when an alarm is activated or when another driver is playing loud music or talking on a cell phone. For example, if someone driving a compact car and listening to loud music is backing out of a parking space without being able to see past the other parked cars, then an aftermarket horn comes in handy to prevent a possible fender bender. Motorcyclists will find this feature especially beneficial; they are often more vulnerable to accidents due to other drivers not being able to see them until it’s too late. Also, if someone attempts to break into the vehicle, the horn will be loud enough for the owner to hear from a distance.

When a car is purchased, most dealerships can replace a standard horn with a limited selection of others, but this often comes at a price, and the mechanic on site will charge a labor fee on top of that. Aftermarket horns are available in a wide variety of sounds, and because they can be ordered online, they can be installed by the driver rather than by a mechanic.

Trucktrainhorns.com stands behind its products by offering discounted parts without compromising quality. Their aftermarket horns come with detailed instructions for proper installation. For those who encounter any problems along the way while trying to install the horn, this company offers phone and e-mail support. Videos and sound clips of their aftermarket horns are featured prominently throughout the site.

Purchasing aftermarket horns allows drivers to have more creative freedom with their vehicles. A car or truck is a major investment, so the driver should feel free to customize it as he or she pleases. For drivers who wish to personalize their vehicles down to the smallest of details, there is a wide array of aftermarket horns to choose from. These are many reasons why it’s better to buy aftermarket horns. Not only will these horns allow the driver to stand out from the crowd, they also offer extra safety for the driver and those with whom the driver shares the road.

Ever wanted the loudest sound you could possibly imagine coming out of your truck’s horn? At Truck Train Horns, there are the loudest, awesome top truck train horns available for installation in your truck, car or rig! Air horns are used on trains, semi-tractors, trucks and just about any kind of automobile to signal danger either from backing up or approaching an intersection. There’s no better way to get someone’s attention, either an unwary car or at a pedestrian crossing. These things are loud, because they’re real.

Whether it’s an aftermarket accessory or a train horn itself, you can find it for purchase. Train horns come with self-installation kits and detailed instructions for do-it-yourself install. The truck train horns come as one item, or you can purchase a full installation kit, with everything you need to put it in yourself, including easy-to-use diagrams, wiring schematics, wiring kits and all necessary hardware. If you ever run into difficulty, simply call a technician for assistance with your installation problem.

If you worry about your auto, truck or boat’s security, alarms, electronic sirens and air horn hook-ups can be had too, with an extremely loud siren replacing your regular car alarm. You can not only get a keyless entry system, you can choose an alarm system that offers an electronic siren and PA system, a nasty surprise for would-be car thieves or vandals. You might choose to hook up your air truck horn as a siren for even more of shock to criminals. Imagine their eardrums being damaged when they try to mess with your ride! It’s a kind of peace of mind insurance for you, and your automobile that you might not otherwise be able to find.

Don’t be fooled by cheaper horns that are less well made. These horns are loud, solid, dependable and attractive. Lesser horns will let you down and not do their intended jobs. You don’t want a car alarm, for instance that doesn’t do the job when it really counts. The same is true for safety. You don’t want to be backing up on a job or coming up on an intersection only to find your horn is malfunctioning. Not only is it a waste of money, it can be dangerous to innocent people around you. Look for the best air horns and air horn kits.

Available as an aftermarket accessory are marine horns, motorcycle horns and extreme horns, all ready for installation by you with comprehensive installation instructions and the ability to be fitted onto almost any part of your boat, bike or car.

These horns have been heavily researched and carefully chosen to provide the loudest sound, the easiest install and the best looks, and the company stands behind its products 100%. Not only will you be pleased with the loudness of your new product and the way it looks on your vehicle, but you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing that the product is backed up with a full warranty, guaranteeing your satisfaction.

The top on the list of great car accessories to have would be an upright door system. Pop open the doors of your car like an old school Delorean, and you’ll certainly have a unique ride. These systems make a car very distinct, and very noticeable.

Want to peel away in a cloud of smoke and sound? A smoke screen kit can make your car vanish like a Ninjamobile. Be sure to use it responsibly though, so that you don’t make the road dangerous for other drivers. A judicious use of the smoke screen can make your car look like it’s driving on a cloud, and the smoke will dissipate safely when other cars approach.

Plate flippers are fun car accessories. You can use them to leave a message to other drivers, like “Back off”, or “Don’t Tail”. The message can also work as a vanity plate. You can easily flip the plate back to a regular license plate if you need to.

You definitely need a good car security system, too. Not only will this keep you and your car safe, but it may lower your insurance costs, too. A Keyless entry system is also great to have, so you never worry about locking your keys in the car.

Fog lights are great for any car to have, and they give a car a special, sort of souped up look. With the ability to cut through the fog better than typical headlights, they’re great—and you stay safe as well. Who can argue with that?

Mud flaps are sweet little things for car enthusiasts who really are looking to keep their car neat and clean, in every way. While these won’t keep mud off your tires, they will help deflect mud from under your car, keeping your underbody cleaner.

Auto organizers are also on the list for car enthusiasts—especially in the cargo area. While many enthusiasts prefer not to have any up front, for that clean-line look, keeping the cargo area neat is a priority. Having a place to stash their extra supplies, neatly, is important.

Pet barriers are another great thing for any car owner to have. This is especially true if they have a dog that likes to try and run through the car while they’re driving. Installation doesn’t take long, and depending on the type can be done yourself, or professionally.

Steering wheel covers—classy ones—are also up on this list of ten great car accessories for a simple reason. The nice, clean classiness that they add to the inside of the car makes it look that much snappier. While some car owners might prefer the furry wheel covers, they do detract from the overall experience of driving.

Cleaning supply kits are also up on the list for a simple reason. Car enthusiasts really like to keep their cars looking clean and doing so requires and endless amount of cleaning. Cleaning requires supplies—a lot of them.

Truck train horns are great fun to use—who doesn’t like to make sure people listen, and get out of the way? Making sure that the truck train horn of your choice works properly is the key issue. In order to do that, you must make sure that you pick the correct compressor size for the horn itself.

Viair 440P Heavy Duty Portable Air Compressor

Owners of pickup trucks with truck train horns will need to consider a number of things when buying an air compressor for their truck. First, is the size of their pickup truck. Some air compressors are portable, others are not and are strictly designed to be mounted somewhere onto the truck

Other considerations are the amount of power truly needed to run the truck train horn from the pickup truck itself. Pickup trucks can be big, but they’re not along the same size as big rigs, and locomotives. So looking at the compressors available, units that will fit into a pickup truck easily have 120 PSI.

While that measurement of 120 PSI may not sound like much, it does put out a loud truck train horn sound. It’s just that the compressor is smaller to fit into a smaller vehicle.

Comparatively, checking out the larger units for big rigs—these are fast-fill and constant duty air compressors. They are obviously going to require more room to install, and the air compressor itself is going to be larger. The output will be louder, too.

While the fast-fill air compressors work quickly and put out a large amount of sound, they generate 150 PSI—more than the portables that the pickup trucks use. These fast-fill compressors are great for the big rig drivers that drive routes that are not as dense in terms of traffic, and the truck train horns are not needed as much.

Constant duty compressors, on the other hand, are for the big rig drivers who are constantly pulling on that truck train horn. The 150 PSI that is generated is still plenty to operate the horn and get the attention of the drivers who are bugging the truck driver.

Finally, there are the mounted air compressors to consider. They can, and do, use up to 200 PSI to operate the truck train horns. Typically, these compressors are found on locomotives and on some of the larger big rigs as well.

Mounted air compressors usually come with a large air tank as well—up to 10 gallons—to get to that 200 PSI rating. So, buyers must make sure that there is plenty of room for this type of air compressor in the cab of the rig or train.

Picking the correct air compressor size for your truck train horn is not too difficult. All it really takes is a bit of knowledge about how each compressor is set up. Deciding where the compressor is going to be located is the last and most important part in that decision.

Remember—if you want real power, use the right size compressor for your truck train horn!

Honestly, why some people are of the opinion that truck train horns are for decoration are entirely out in left field. In reality, truck train horns serve a different, much more important purpose—safety. Additionally, not all train horns are seen by the general public due to their installation.

While it is true that big rig trucks will be seen with bright shiny chrome truck train horns on their cabs, the purpose is still the same, safety. Some drivers may dispute this idea, but safety is the main purpose behind these horns and they definitely get people’s attention.

Consider this: the buyer of a truck train horn may be a car, pickup or even a big rig driver. Their reasons for buying the horn all revolve around the same central issue.

Car owners that purchase truck train horns will do so for several safety reasons. One of those reasons is that the area in which the owner lives is known to be a high crime rate area. When the train horn is set up correctly as an alarm, the person trying to take off with the car will literally become deafened by the loud horn, and attention is immediately brought to what is going on to the vehicle.

Another reason car owners will install a truck train horn is safety for their custom made vehicles. Yes, those vehicles on which thousands of dollars have been spent on fancy paint jobs, pipe work, engines and more—when an owner of a car sees someone coming too close, they can easily trigger the train horn to warn the other person, and scare them off.

Conveniently for car owners, truck train horns are not seen by the public, they are actually hidden from view, in the trunk of the car. By hiding the train horns out of sight, the likelihood of damage being done to the car, or damage from the horn possibly being broken off is limited, which is yet another promotion of safety.

Pickup trucks have the ability to have truck train horns installed on the top of their cabs, in a similar fashion to big rig trucks. This allows for limiting problems when it comes to safety issues. Some pickup truck owners do choose to put the train horns in other places, but the general recommendation is on top of the cab.

Big rigs as well have their extremely loud truck train horns installed on their cabs, but their horns are much larger and louder. This is to get the attention of drivers on the road, on the off chance that something goes wrong; brakes are lost, the truck jackknifes, or something similar.

Truthfully, there are several good reasons to buy a truck train horn, the most important of which is safety for everyone. So now would be a great time to check truck train horn out, and seriously consider buying one—whether it is to keep your vehicle safe, your family safe, or the general public out of harm’s way. But be prepared for the noise!

When looking for air horns for your truck, it’s important to know the difference between the discounted, cheaper air horns, and the higher quality horns that will really give you a bang for your buck.

A Great Loud Horn for a Great Price

One of the main reasons for having a train horn, besides the power of the noise and the cool way you can get attention, is if you are in a serious predicament, your horn could be essential in clearing the way for emergency vehicles. There are many kinds of horns, but the best ones are made of chrome plated brass, not plastic. The plastic ones aren’t nearly as powerful as the brass ones.

Another thing that makes a great train horn is the size of the air reservoir. The cheap ones don’t have a large reservoir. These will save you money and have cheaper and easier installation but you will also get a very weak, short and low quality sound. To get a high quality horn, look for one with a reservoir of one to six gallons. This will make the horn blast immediately super loud and long when you hit the button.

Because when you install a train horn on your truck, you will need space for the air compressor and tank, you will need to consider the best place for the horn. And that’s just personal preference, there are no rules about where and how to install.

The absolutely top of the line, loudest, baddest horn is the AirChime K5LA 540 Train Horn. This is not a remake of a train horn, this IS an actual train horn! You will be heard for miles with this puppy on top of your truck. It’s got a 400C air compressor and a large 5 gallon reservoir of an air tank. Coming in around $1600 you will be heard for literally miles!

For the money the best horn is the Nathan Air Chime K5 Series. This one costs almost a grand, but you can’t beat this one for having five chimes made of sand cast aluminum and stainless steel diaphragms. I love these because they are also reversible for multi-directional use.

If you’re looking for a good deal but still have the quality, try United Pacific’s Super Heavy Duty Train Horn Kit for about $400. This is the entire kit, and comes with compressor, pressure switch, a 5 gallon air tank and everything you need to have a heavy duty three bell all metal horn on your rig.

While I wouldn’t recommend going much less than this, for those of you who can’t afford it, I think the best cheaper truck train horn is the Chrome Outlaw 228CX Train Horn Kit. The horns are chrome and the kit has a lot of extras. There’s a complete Viair onboard air source, a pre-wired pressure switch, a 175 PSI blow-off valve and a drain cock. And of course all the fittings needed to install. This one runs about $300.

There are a number of arguments about what makes a great truck train horn—the number of horns in a train horn kit, whether or not the train horn is chrome as well as a variety of other issues. Let’s take a look at some of these arguments.

First, truck train horns are made to attract attention—whether it is to make sure that someone needs to pay attention to where they are going, or if a vehicle is being broken into. When these horns are sounded, no one can miss the noise they make.

AirChime K5LA

Truck train horns are obviously designed to sound like an oncoming locomotive, and the sounds coming from them tend to be at the 150 decibel level or higher, on average. This level is enough to render some people deaf—at least temporarily.

So, if attracting attention due to noise is the only criteria that a customer is looking for, then shop for truck train horns that are high on the decibel rating. However, don’t forget to have some earplugs handy.

Others are of the opinion that the size of the compressed air tank that pushes the air through the horns is the most important part of a truck train horn. Some air tanks are smaller than others, and still do the job just as well as the larger ones, but the effect of the train horn does not last as long.

If the measure of a train horn’s success is based on length of sound, then look for one that has a larger compressed air tank included in the unit. The longer sound is produced by more air being pushed out, so that would make it more successful.

Still other customers are of the opinion that chrome plating on the horns themselves is what really makes the difference for the sound of a great truck train horn. This however, cannot really be, and here is why.

Chrome is literally just an application—the process of applying a covering to another metal. Sound may reverberate off of the chrome somewhat, but not enough to make a difference. What really makes the difference in the sound is how the unit itself is built—compressor size, and the number of trumpets used in them being two important factors.

Looking at some truck train horns, there are units that are built with only three trumpets, versus others that may have four, or even five trumpets. Debate exists as to what is better—typical thought is that the more trumpets the better. Truthfully, if the air compressor is large enough, and there are more trumpets, then the sound effect is going to be much louder.

Making choices about truck train horns means deciding what is most important to the individual. Whether that is the size of the air compressor, the look of the trumpets due to chrome plating, or the number of trumpets—that choice is purely an individual thing. Look at friends’ choices, shop around, and then decide for yourself and enjoy!

Trains themselves are some of the loudest things passing through town, and the horns are impossible not to hear. If you have ever been in your car and honked and had another driver not even hear it, you might consider getting a train horn for your car or truck. These things can be dangerous to hearing, so be careful if you are trying to alert pedestrians.

Having a loud train horn sound on your or truck or service vehicle can help warn people when you’re approaching. They’re not only a safety feature but also an aesthetic choice. Some of these bad boys can be so loud that they surpass 180 plus decibels! The sharp, ringing sound can last for many seconds after use.

Be careful when using them to warn pedestrians as, being the driver, you may be the closest person to the vehicle and might sustain some ear damage. But some truck drivers want the loudest train horns out there, and I’ve found them - the loudest of the loud, the super pipers, authentic truck train horns. If you want to get the loudest possible sound, you’ve got to get a horn that’s used on a real train. Everyone will know you’re coming with one of these monsters.

The hardest part about searching for loud truck train horns is to find the actual decibels the horns you may be interested in purchasing have clocked in at. Most companies don’t list this essential statistic on their website. The best thing to do, then, is first of all, limit your search to compressed air horns that are actually used on real trains. These will be hands down the loudest horns you can find.

Now that you’ve limited your search, the next step is to call the sellers of the horns you’re actually interested in and ask them, before you purchase, what decibels the horns have reached. That’s the only way to know for sure, short of purchasing the behemoth, installing it, and registering the noise yourself (with ear plugs on, please).

Here’s a brief, non-exhaustive list of the horns I like. There are several train horn sites, and they all sell authentic train horns for your truck, car, or service vehicle.

You can buy their AirChime K3LA and pump an astonishing 156 decibels into your neighbors ear drums. The cost will be under 1,500 bucks. Well worth it, though, for the raw power and authentic chime. It comes with a 150 PSI 5 Gallon All-Inclusive Kit. This refers to the compressed air that’s used to generate such intense noise. They also offer, for another 500 bucks, the same kit but with two additional horns. The decibels are about the same—156Db—so this is really just a stylistic choice?

A great place to find super loud truck train horns is trucktrainhorns.com. Their website is very easy to use and has some pretty cool features. Be sure to check out their videos demonstrating some of the train sounds their horns make. They give you a good idea of what you’ll be purchasing and how unique the sound is, compared with most other drivers on the road. Plus, they have some funny videos on using train horns to scare people. That is half the fun, isn’t it?

One of their prettiest horns, is the Nathan AirChime K5LA, the “godfather of all train horns.” It’ll cost you about 1,500 bucks, but from the look of her she’s worth every penny. Made from high cast aluminum, the K5 employs five “heavy duty drum bells with a high flow five-way manifold.” They boast that this set is most likely the loudest thing they’ve ever sold. They guarantee quality and durability. The company also offers air horn kits, air systems, and aftermarket horns. No matter what horn you use, you’ll be heard for miles away - perfect for a scare and safety.

Truck train horns come in a wide variety of types, ranging from inexpensive plastic horns to high-quality sets costing hundreds of dollars. The more you’re willing to invest in a horn, the more likely you’re going to get a durable, high volume, long lasting product.

Cheaper horns aren’t capable of achieving the high decibel volumes of more expensive horns. The cheapest truck train horns are usually made of plastic. While these horns will get the job done, they’re not going to do it very well, and you’re going to spend more money on them in the long run. Due to their design, their air tanks need to be refilled more often. In the end, any savings you get from buying a cheaper horn is going to be spent constantly refilling the air. The volume of plastic horns is also significantly lower than horns made of sturdier material, like brass. If a plastic horn gets a crack in it, the total volume and sound quality is going to be dramatically decreased. Lower priced metal horns, which are usually thinner and more prone to dings and bends, can also suffer from the same problems. Any time the shape of the horn is compromised, or a crack develops in it, you’re going to be using more air to produce a lower volume sound.

If you want a horn that’ll perform better and louder than just a typical car horn, you’ll need to pay a little more. However, a high quality horn will last for years, and will continue to provide a sound output as loud as the day you bought it, making these horns a worthwhile investment. In contrast to cheaper plastic horns, a good metal horn uses much less air, while still producing high decibel volumes. Brass and steel horns are much less likely to experience any of the cracks or defects that a plastic or lower quality metal horn are prone to. Many of these horn kits provide multi-horn setups, providing an even louder output.

On a busy highway, a car horn can be barely audible to other vehicles, especially ones with the radio or stereo turned to a high volume, blocking out any outside sounds. This can lead to dangerous situations if you’re unable to get the attention of another driver on the road. A train horn makes a great replacement for your car’s horn. These horns are specifically designed to reach overpoweringly high volumes for the purpose of getting the attention of other drivers, regardless of what noise may be coming from the highway or other vehicles. If you’ve ever been suddenly startled by an oncoming ambulance or fire truck, then you’re familiar with the effectiveness that a train horn has over a conventional car or truck horn. Overall, a truck train horn is a great investment that’ll increase your road presence, ensuring the safety of you and your passengers in emergency situations.
